Pwinsider previously reported Mercedes Mone and Shane McMahon ran into each other last weekend at an airport.
It all started when Conrad Thompson shared on Grilling JR that he got a message from a buddy saying Shane McMahon has been in touch with AEW wrestlers to discuss the possibility of joining the promotion. It was purely in a hypothetical way. This is after Jim Ross said that he didn’t think the idea of McMahon appearing in AEW was as “crazy as you think.”
Dave Meltzer reported people from the AEW side who should know about this either haven’t heard anything or have only heard what Thompson said.AEW President Tony Khan commented by stating, “I’ve never met him or talked to him in my life..” Meltzer also reported that there was a conversation between McMahon and a former WWE talent in AEW. However, it wasn’t a pitch for McMahon to join or anything like that. It was just a casual chat where McMahon mentioned something like, “Can you imagine if I walked out there on Dynamite?” It wasn’t meant to be a serious proposal, which could explain why the key people in AEW haven’t heard about it.
In her weekly newsletter, Mone confirmed the report, as seen below:
“After it all, by only the fates aligned – I walked into the airport, was in line by the bagel shop when I suddenly looked up, and there he was, just as surprised as I was. My first day being a double title holder and the first wrestler and former WWE Superstar I see is McMahon….come on, if that isn’t the universe working in divine timing, I don’t know what else it could be. I’ve always loved Shane. When we locked eyes, we both kind of looked at each other like IS THAT YOU? Our faces lit up as we got to talking a bit and before he boarded his flight, he gave me his number… the rest as they say a history or maybe a mystery!”
