Tony Khan recently did an interview with Maggie & Perloff, where he discussed a wide range of topics.
During the interview, the AEW president was asked about whether John Cena is the Mount Rushmore of pro wrestling. Cena has announced his 2025 WWE in-ring retirement plans.
Cena’s retirement from WWE in 2025 was revealed at Money in the Bank, and it’s a hot topic among fans. In his speech, the ex-WWE Champion mentioned that he would be present when Raw transitioned to Netflix.
He also stated that the Royal Rumble, the Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 2025 will mark his final matches. Cena intends to stay active in the ring throughout the year, aiming to participate in 30–40 matches.
“He would definitely be somebody anybody would have to consider, certainly, especially of the modern era. For me, a lot of the people on my Mount Rushmore are probably people I grew up on. Not only being a fan of, but have gotten to work with later in life. Sting, to me, is up there. It’s a lot of guys I grew up on my Mount Rushmore. Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat and Bret Hart and Steve Austin. I’d have to think about Ric Flair. A lot of great options for that. John Cena is one of the best wrestlers and certainly one of the greatest of this modern era, without a doubt,” said Khan.
