Kurt Angle Addresses ‘Perc Angle’ Nickname

WWE

Kurt Angle recently opened up about the trending nickname “Perc Angle”, which fans have used as a term of endearment to describe his intensity during a time when he was struggling with addiction. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Angle admitted that the nickname hurts his feelings, despite fans not intending any harm.

On January 24, Angle took to social media to share a heartfelt statement about the nickname and its connection to a dark chapter in his life:

“I’ve noticed the ‘Perc Angle’ nickname trending on social media. While I know it’s made in jest, it reminds me of a time when I struggled deeply with addiction and mental health challenges. Those memories are painful, but they also fuel my commitment to helping others.”

Angle’s Struggles with Addiction

Angle has been open in the past about his battle with painkiller addiction, which began after he suffered multiple injuries during his wrestling career. His addiction spiraled during the mid-2000s, leading to personal and professional struggles.

During that period, Angle was still delivering high-octane, memorable performances in both WWE and TNA, despite dealing with severe physical and mental health challenges. Fans who look back at this era often use the “Perc Angle” nickname to highlight how incredible he was in the ring during such a difficult time.

However, for Angle, the nickname serves as a painful reminder of his lowest points:

“Addiction destroys lives, but it’s never too late to get help. I’ve been clean for 12 years and have since built a life dedicated to purpose and service.”

Angle’s Road to Recovery and Advocacy

Angle’s story is one of resilience. After overcoming his addiction, he has become a vocal advocate for mental health and recovery, sharing his journey to inspire others facing similar battles. His message on social media reinforced his dedication to helping those struggling with addiction:

“Those memories are painful, but they also fuel my commitment to helping others.”

Angle has been clean for over a decade, and in that time, he’s focused on rebuilding his life with his family, staying physically active, and continuing to inspire fans around the world.
