AEW’s CMLL Alliance Reportedly Prompted WWE’s AAA Acquisition

WWE’s surprising acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA, announced just before WrestleMania 41, was reportedly spurred by AEW’s recent partnership with CMLL. While WWE revealed the deal and a “Worlds Collide” event during the WrestleMania pre-show, featuring AAA President Marisela Pena and El Hijo del Vikingo alongside WWE’s Mexican stars, sources suggest AEW’s move with CMLL accelerated the finalization.

Fightful Select reported that while WWE and AAA talks were ongoing, the deal was concluded after the AEW/CMLL announcement. Talent within AAA expressed skepticism about the Roldan family relinquishing control. The close timing of the announcements indicates a potential competitive response from WWE in the evolving landscape of professional wrestling partnerships.
