AEW star Will Ospreay has identified a significant NJPW talent he has surprisingly never faced one-on-one: current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto. Speaking with Josh Martinez of Z100 on “Superstar Crossover,” Ospreay expressed his desire for this first-time encounter, potentially at a major upcoming event.
When asked about a Japanese star he’d like to wrestle for the first time, the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion pinpointed Goto. “Strangely, the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion right now, Goto. We never wrestled one another,” Ospreay stated. With the annual AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event on the horizon, he then teased, “Forbidden Door is coming up, so…”
AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025 is scheduled for August 24, 2025, at the O2 Arena in London, England, Ospreay’s home country. A match against the reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion would undoubtedly be a marquee attraction for the supershow.
Before any potential Forbidden Door clashes, Ospreay has significant AEW commitments. He faces “Hangman” Adam Page in the finals of the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament this Sunday, May 25th, at AEW Double or Nothing 2025, with the winner earning an AEW World Championship match at All In:
