Former Ring of Honor TV Champion Komander was pulled from his scheduled high-profile trios match on the AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster special due to a legitimate injury.
The news was first reported by Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp after AEW aired a backstage segment where Komander was taken out by The Hurt Syndicate. In the angle, he was seen holding his knee and was later declared not medically cleared to compete.
The On-Screen Angle And Replacement
To explain his absence from the match, the backstage segment showed The Hurt Syndicate (MJF, Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) attacking Komander and stealing his mask. This angle wrote him off the show and furthered the new faction’s ruthless reputation.
Taking Komander’s place in the trios match was fellow luchador Mascara Dorada, who teamed with “Speedball” Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight. The Hurt Syndicate ultimately won the match, after which MJF unmasked Dorada as part of the build to his own upcoming match against Mistico at AEW Grand Slam Mexico.
Uncertainty Surrounding The Injury
It is currently unknown what the specific nature of Komander’s injury is or how long he will be out of action. It is also unclear if the injury will impact his status for next week’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico event at Arena Mexico.
Komander’s last match before the injury was a trios match on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
