The field for the NJPW G1 Climax 35 tournament is now set. At the New Japan Soul tour final on Sunday, July 6, Taichi won a last-chance gauntlet match to earn the final spot in the A Block.
The spot was opened after Hirooki Goto was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. The gauntlet match, which featured wrestlers who had lost in the G1 play-in matches, saw Taichi overcome his tag team partner, Tomohiro Ishii, in the final fall to advance.
The G1 Climax 35 tournament will begin on Saturday, July 19, and the final will be held on August 17. The winner of each 10-man block will advance directly to the semi-finals. The second and third-place finishers from each block will then compete in play-off matches to determine the other two semi-finalists.
