Dustin Rhodes to Miss Significant Time Due to Injury

AEW

Just days after losing his TNT Championship in a brutal Street Fight, AEW star Dustin Rhodes has announced that he has suffered a severe injury that will require major surgery and keep him out of action for a significant amount of time. In a heartfelt social media post earlier today, the veteran revealed the devastating news to his fans.

Dustin Rhodes Reveals Severity of Injury After Title Loss

On this past Thursday’s episode of AEW Collision, Dustin Rhodes lost the TNT Championship to Kyle Fletcher in a bloody and violent Street Fight. In his post, Rhodes confirmed that the injuries he sustained in that match were severe and will require him to go under the knife.

“Sorry guys, feel like I failed my fans. Gonna be out for a while as Doc said I need a very invasive major surgery,” Rhodes wrote. “MRI’s and cat scans this week, due to Kyle Fletcher. In any case, for the time I was the face of TNT was special to me. I will never take what I have for granted. I am in a terrible amount of pain and have a hole in my leg, but that won’t stop me from #KeepSteppin”

“Not a Work”

In the world of professional wrestling, the line between storyline and reality is often blurred. However, Rhodes made a point to clarify the legitimacy of his injury in a follow-up comment, simply stating, “Not a work.” This confirmation removes any doubt about the situation, making it clear that this is a real and serious injury for the beloved 56-year-old performer, not just an angle to write him off television. His announcement has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow wrestlers alike.

A Short But Special Reign Comes to a Brutal End

Dustin Rhodes’s reign as TNT Champion was brief but memorable. He captured the vacant title at the All In Texas pay-per-view last month, winning a four-way match in an emotional moment that was celebrated by fans. The injury occurred during his second title defense against Kyle Fletcher. The Street Fight saw Fletcher viciously target Rhodes’s leg, at one point repeatedly stabbing his knee with a screwdriver. Even after winning the match and the title, Fletcher continued his assault, wrapping Rhodes’s injured leg around the ring post and slamming it with a steel chair. This brutal on-screen attack is now confirmed to be the cause of a legitimate, serious injury.

Dustin Rhodes’s unfortunate announcement brings a somber end to what was a feel-good championship run for the beloved veteran. As he prepares for surgery and a long road to recovery, the new TNT Champion, Kyle Fletcher, will now move forward, having established himself as one of the most ruthless and dangerous competitors in AEW through his brutalization of a legend. The entire wrestling community will undoubtedly be wishing “The Natural” a full and speedy recovery.
