MJF Cuts Scathing Promo After Winning CMLL World Light Heavyweight Title

AEW

Fresh off his shocking CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship victory in Arena Mexico, AEW star MJF had some choice words for his rival, Mistico. In a classic, arrogant promo following his title win, MJF gloated about his victory, ran down his next challenger, and made it clear that his conquest of CMLL was all about proving his superiority over the legendary luchador.

MJF Continues His War of Words with Mistico

After defeating Averno in the main event of Friday night’s CMLL Viernes Espectacular to win the title, MJF took to the microphone to directly address Mistico. He claimed that his victory proved once and for all that he was the better man, as he had accomplished something Mistico never could: beating Averno for the championship.

“Mistico, what is the difference between me and you, besides the fact that I don’t wear this stupid mask? It is the simple fact that I did what you were never able to accomplish. I beat Averno for the CMLL World Championship,” MJF declared. “Mistico, I have proved time and time again that I am a better man because I am an American man and an American hero.”

His promo was a direct continuation of the deeply personal feud that has spanned across both AEW and CMLL for months.

A Challenge Accepted for August 15

During his celebration, MJF was confronted by another luchador, Zandokan Jr., who challenged him for his newly won championship. In his promo, MJF mockingly accepted the challenge, mispronouncing Zandokan Jr.’s name and comparing him to a pirate from “Pirates of the Caribbean” before confirming their match for the Viernes Espectacular show on August 15.

“Zandokan Jr.! What are you, hugh? Captain Hook? What are you, a pirate?” MJF taunted. “Zandokan Jr., if you want a shot at the World Champion here at CMLL, all you had to do was ask, amigo… August 15! I’m gonna make you walk the plank, boy, because my name is Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and I’m better than you, and you know it!”

The International Champion

MJF’s victory and subsequent promo have firmly established him as the top villain in CMLL, all while he continues to be a main event player in AEW. The “Salt of the Earth” now holds a major international championship while also possessing the guaranteed contract for an AEW World Championship match, which he earned at the All In pay-per-view last month. His presence in CMLL is a key part of the growing partnership between the two promotions, and his championship reign is sure to bring more international attention to the historic Mexican company. His feud with Mistico has now evolved into a larger conquest, with MJF positioning himself as the “American hero” who has come to take over Lucha Libre.

With his first title defense already set against the formidable Zandokan Jr., MJF is set to become a regular fixture in Arena Mexico. His reign as CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion promises to be as entertaining as it is controversial.
