In a showcase of the partnership between All Elite Wrestling and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, the AEW World Tag Team Championships will be defended this Friday, September 12, at the historic Arena Mexico in Mexico City. The reigning champions, Brodido (Brody King & Bandido), are set to put their newly won championships on the line against the CMLL team of Galeón Fantasma. This marks a significant moment for the collaboration between the two promotions, as it is one of the first times a top-tier AEW championship will be defended on a weekly CMLL show. The match adds a great deal of prestige to CMLL’s “Viernes Espectacular” event and gives the new AEW champions an immediate international platform to showcase their dominance.
Brodido captured the AEW World Tag Team Championships just a few weeks ago at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view in London, winning a chaotic three-way match that also involved FTR and the former champions, The Hurt Syndicate. Their immediate willingness to defend the championships in one of the most famous wrestling venues in the world against established CMLL talent is a testament to the “Forbidden Door” spirit. The match will headline a stacked card for the weekly Arena Mexico show, which also features a major trios match pitting lucha libre legends Atlantis and Blue Panther alongside Titan and Templario against the formidable team of Euforia, Mephisto, Max Star, and Futuro. The event demonstrates the continued strengthening of the relationship between AEW and the top promotions in Mexico and Japan.
The updated lineup for the show is below:
- AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: Brodido (champions) vs. Galeón Fantasma
- Atlantis, Blue Panther, Titan, & Templario vs. Euforia, Mephisto, Max Star, & Futuro
- La Catalina vs. Zeuxis
- Magia Blanca, Xelhua, & Hijo del Pantera vs. Calavera Jr., Infarto & Calavera Jr. II
- Galaxy & Shockercito vs. Pequeño Polvora & Full Metal
