New Japan Pro-Wrestling held its major fall event, King of Pro-Wrestling, on Monday, October 13, from the historic Ryogoku Sumo Hall in Tokyo. The show was a newsworthy one, featuring a series of major championship matches that have reshaped the landscape of the company heading into the final months of the year. While the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion was able to retain his championship in the main event, three other championships changed hands over the course of the evening, including the IWGP Global Heavyweight and NEVER Openweight Championships. The results of the show have now set the stage for the road to Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January.
In the main event, Zack Sabre Jr. successfully defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against the winner of the G1 Climax 35 tournament, Konosuke Takeshita. The co-main event saw a title change, as Yota Tsuji defeated Gabe Kidd to become the new IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion. The NEVER Openweight Championship also has a new holder, as EVIL of the House of Torture defeated Boltin Oleg to win the championship. In the opening contest, Syuri defeated Sareee to capture the IWGP Women’s Championship. In another notable title match, the NJPW World Television Championship bout between El Phantasmo and Hiroshi Tanahashi went to a time-limit draw.
