Tony Khan Comments On The Status Of Andrade El Idolo In AEW

AEW President Tony Khan has publicly addressed the current, complicated situation regarding Andrade El Idolo’s status with the company. During the AEW WrestleDream media call, Khan was asked about the former WWE United States Champion, who made a shocking return to AEW on October 1, only to be reportedly pulled from programming due to a cease-and-desist from WWE over a one-year non-compete clause. Khan’s response was diplomatic, as he reiterated his immense respect for Andrade while being careful not to comment on the specific legal situation between Andrade and his former employer.

When asked by Jon Alba of “The Takedown on SI” where the Andrade situation currently stands, Khan echoed the positive sentiments he expressed when Andrade left the company in 2023.

“Well, I would echo sentiments I had said at AEW Worlds End 2023, when Andrade initially left a few years ago. And I would say that I have a ton of respect for Andrade El Idolo. I think he’s an amazing wrestler, and I think that when he left in 2023, it was on a very high note. Just to reiterate everything I said at his departure a few years ago. I still feel that way, and I think Andrade is a great wrestler. And I’m excited to see what’s next for him. I would leave it at that.”

When pressed further on whether Andrade is currently under an AEW contract, Khan remained consistent in his response.

“Yeah, I would just echo the sentiments again when Andre had initially left in 2023. I have a ton of respect for him, and I’m saying as much as I can say about it, but I appreciate you asking. And I am excited to see what’s next for Andre. And, again, this is somebody that I think is just an incredible wrestler. I really enjoyed working with him in the past, and I’m excited to see what’s next for him.”
