Mercedes Moné Makes History At AEW WrestleDream

AEW

Mercedes Moné has officially made professional wrestling history. At the AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view from the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri, “The CEO” won her 11th concurrent championship, surpassing the long-standing modern record held by Ultimo Dragon. The historic moment came after Moné issued an open challenge for her AEW TBS Championship, which was answered by the reigning Ring of Honor Women’s Television Champion, Mina Shirakawa, turning the bout into a high-stakes, title-for-title showdown.

The match was a physical and back-and-forth contest from the start. Shirakawa, who has her own history with Moné, aggressively targeted the TBS Champion’s knee and used her signature striking offense to gain the upper hand. Moné, who recently updated her social media handles to “Ultimo Moné” to mark her goal of breaking the record, had to dig deep into her bag of tricks to overcome the formidable challenger. After surviving near falls and submission attempts, Moné hit a thumb to the eye, followed by the Statement Maker. Even a successful Moné Maker could not keep Shirakawa down for the three-count, leading to a visibly frustrated champion.

In the final moments of the match, Moné countered Shirakawa’s offense and managed to secure a roll-up pin, clearly using the ropes for illegal leverage to get the victory and capture the ROH Women’s Television Championship. As confetti fell and Moné celebrated her history-making 11th title, her celebration was cut short. The new AEW Women’s World Champion, Kris Statlander, stormed to the ring, apparently seeking revenge and cutting off Moné’s historic moment to a thunderous reaction from the St. Louis crowd, setting the stage for a future champion vs. champion confrontation.
