WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus recently shared the emotional backstory behind her return to the ring at Evolution 2 this past July. Speaking with Bill Apter, Stratus revealed that her mother was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma shortly after Elimination Chamber in March, making her hesitant to accept a match against then-Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton.
Stratus explained that she didn’t want to leave her mother’s side during treatment, especially since her mother had previously battled cancer when Stratus first retired in 2006. However, it was her mother who insisted she take the opportunity.
“My mom said to me, ‘Do it.’ Not even a question. She was like, ‘Oh my God, do it.’… She goes, ‘Do what you can while you can.’ Do what you can while you can because you never know what’s going to happen.”
Stratus praised the match with Stratton, stating, “If that was my last time in the ring, I’d be happy if it was.”
