WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker has opened up about one of his most memorable—and questionable—entrances. On his “Six Feet Under” podcast, the Deadman reflected on his 1996 Survivor Series appearance where he descended from the rafters wearing large, leather bat wings.
Undertaker admitted the concept was his own attempt to evolve his character into a more “demonic state.”
“I did [ask for them], that was my idea… I figured, ‘What would be more demonic than me being in like, all shiny leather with some really big bat wings? … Again, not one of my better ideas.”
He also detailed the pitch meeting with Vince McMahon, noting that he had built enough trust over five or six years to take risks with his character.
“He made me explain it and give my reasoning… And then he trusted me, because I didn’t win a lot of arguments with Vince… But yeah, I think I was very passionate when I delivered my idea… And [Vince said], ‘God damn, that’ll be great. I love it!’ And that’s all I needed.”
