On an episode of WWE Break It Down, Punk recalled the night he paid tribute to the late “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Savage passed away on May 20, 2011, and three days later on RAW, Punk wore pink trunks and yellow boots inspired by Savage’s WrestleMania III attire. However, Punk revealed that a high-ranking WWE official tried to stop him.
“I won’t name names, but somebody very high in the office walked past and saw it. And [they] found me and said, ‘Do not wear that gear on television,’” Punk said.
Punk’s response was immediate.
“And I said, ‘You got it.’ And I wore the gear on television, because that’s what I do. I’m gonna pay homage to Randy Savage whether you like it or not.”
Punk explained that as a hardcore fan, he always gravitated toward Savage and felt a connection to the passion fans had for him.
