Alex Abrahantes has officially addressed his departure from All Elite Wrestling, confirming reports that his tenure with the company has come to an end.
It was reported on Monday by Fightful Select that Abrahantes’ contract with AEW was not renewed, marking the conclusion of a run that began in the promotion’s foundational year of 2019. Following the news, “The Hype Man” took to social media to share a video statement, expressing his gratitude for his time in the company and the opportunities afforded to him by AEW President Tony Khan.
“For over six years, I have been able to live my dream. And I am so grateful for AEW, I’m so grateful that Tony gave me the opportunity to do so, and I didn’t want to step away without saying thank you,” Abrahantes said.
Abrahantes initially joined the company as a Spanish-language announcer but found his true calling on-screen in 2021 when he aligned himself with the Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix). His energetic translations, including the popular “Penta Says” catchphrase, and his eventual transformation into a cloaked, darker persona to match Penta Oscuro, made him a beloved figure among the fanbase. He was ringside for the Lucha Brothers’ historic World Tag Team Championship victory against The Young Bucks in a steel cage match at All Out 2021, a moment often cited as one of the greatest matches in company history.
In his farewell message, Abrahantes pivoted from wrestling to offer a broader motivational message to his followers, encouraging them to persevere in the face of doubt.
“When I was younger, I made a vow that someday I’d make it and share this same exact message with you that if you work hard, believe in yourself, and don’t take the criticisms of others and don’t let what other people believe or think about you hold you down and kill your dreams,” he said. “I can tell you from experience, reaching your dream is 100% worth it. There’s gonna be ups, there’s gonna be downs, but as long as you believe in yourself, as long as you work hard, as long as you’re a good person, and as long as you never give up, you’re going to see those dreams come true and trust me, it’s totally worth it.”
Following the departure of the Lucha Brothers from AEW, Abrahantes continued to serve as a manager for high-flying stars like Komander, as well as visiting CMLL talent such as Mistico and Mascara Dorada. His ability to bridge the language gap and add character to the lucha libre division made him a valuable asset for over half a decade.
Abrahantes is not the only notable name leaving Jacksonville as the calendar turns to 2026. His exit coincides with reports that former Ring of Honor World Champion Matt Taven and veteran Mercedes Martinez have also parted ways with the company following the expiration of their contracts. While the roster continues to evolve, speculation remains high regarding the status of Chris Jericho. Despite rampant rumors that the “Learning Tree” would return to WWE upon his contract’s expiration at the end of 2025, he remains listed on the official AEW roster page as of this week, leaving his future a mystery amidst this wave of departures.
