Tony Khan Denies Wrestlers Have Creative Control In AEW

Tony Khan wants to make one thing clear: the buck stops with him.

In a recent appearance on The Battleground Podcast, the AEW President addressed long-standing rumors that certain top talents, such as Mercedes Moné, possess creative control over their storylines. Khan firmly rejected the notion.

“There’s no creative control. Only I have it. No wrestler has that,” Khan stated.

While Khan admitted that he had become “too collaborative” prior to 2025, he emphasized that he still values input from his roster. He described his process as highly collaborative but noted that he retains the final say on what makes it to television.

“I am one of the most collaborative people on the planet… That’s what it is, the wrestlers coming in with ideas, I come in with ideas, we work together,” Khan explained. “A lot of times the wrestlers come up with great ideas. But I have to choose what we do and don’t do. And within the constraints of doing two-hour TV shows, there’s only so many things you can do.”
