Backstage Update On Roman Reigns’ WWE WrestleMania Opponent

Roman Reigns has punched his ticket to WrestleMania 42, becoming a two-time Royal Rumble winner on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Reigns last eliminated Gunther to close out the 2026 pay-per-view event. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the current plan is for Reigns to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. This would mark their first singles match since January 2014.

Regarding the Undisputed WWE Championship, the scheduled bout is Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes, though Meltzer notes that Jacob Fatu could be added to make it a three-way contest. Original plans for a third Rhodes vs. Reigns match were scrapped following Survivor Series. WrestleMania 42 will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on April 18 and 19.
