WWE’s experiment with a custom LED-lit arena for the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia may be a one-time occurrence. A temporary outdoor stadium was constructed in Riyadh within one month because standard venues were unavailable due to football matches. To enhance the visual spectacle, many seats were fitted with LED lighting for special effects.
However, the setup had an unintended negative side effect: it made the arena appear noticeably empty on the broadcast, despite being full. WWE sources claimed to PWInsider that 25,000 tickets were moved for the event. One source indicated they do not expect the company to utilize this lighting setup again, noting internally that it did not translate well to television.
