The landscape of the AEW trios division shifted dramatically in an impromptu championship match during Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. The Don Callis Family emerged victorious, capturing the AEW World Trios Championships from Jet Set Rodeo in a chaotic main event defined by outside interference.
A Masterclass in Opportunism by the Don Callis Family
The title match materialized after “Hangman” Adam Page secured a quick squash victory earlier in the evening. AEW World Champion MJF came out to taunt his Revolution opponent, which served as a distraction for Mark Davis, Kazuchika Okada, and Kyle Fletcher to execute a coordinated attack on Page. When Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight rushed the ring to even the odds, Don Callis seized the moment, issuing a formal challenge for the titles that he claimed was immediately approved by Tony Khan.
The resulting main event was a grueling battle. In the closing moments, Page appeared to have the match secured after hitting Mark Davis with his signature Buckshot Lariat. Page tagged in Knight to execute a double-team combo finisher, but disaster struck. MJF suddenly appeared at ringside, taking out Page on the apron. The interference left Knight completely isolated in the ring, where he fell victim to an Okada Rainmaker followed by a devastating piledriver from Davis, crowning new champions.
The defeat ends Jet Set Rodeo’s reign at 50 days, having managed only one successful title defense prior to Wednesday. The victory establishes Kyle Fletcher as a dual champion, adding the Trios gold to his current TNT Championship run. Similarly, Okada now holds both the Trios titles and the AEW International Championship. For Mark Davis, the win represents his first AEW championship and his first major title since briefly holding the ROH Tag Team belts with Fletcher in 2023.
