The highly anticipated televised in-ring debut of The IInspiration did not go according to plan. Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay arrived on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite from El Paso, Texas, with immense confidence, but their first official match on the flagship program was an unmitigated disaster.
A Brutal Reality Check from The Brawling Birds
The former WWE Women’s and TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions squared off against the hard-hitting, undefeated duo known as The Brawling Birds (Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter). Prior to the bell, Lee and McKay displayed their signature arrogance, demanding their entrance music be played a second time so they could continue their choreographed dance routine on the stage.
However, once the match began, the dancing stopped immediately. The Brawling Birds unleashed a furious assault, completely overwhelming the seasoned veterans. The physical mismatch lasted just under 90 seconds bell-to-bell, concluding when Windsor and Hayter executed their devastating “Two Birds One Stone” Hart Attack-esque double-team finisher to secure a dominant pinfall victory.
Reports following the broadcast indicate the squash match was designed to establish The Brawling Birds as a terrifying force in the division. The IInspiration originally made their AEW promotional debut last month during an untelevised House Rules event in Australia, picking up a win over local talent. They subsequently appeared on last Saturday’s Collision in a pre-taped promo to call out Hayter and Windsor, setting the stage for their embarrassing defeat. Lee and McKay, who are currently signed to multi-year deals with AEW, are scheduled to travel to Japan later this month to challenge for the TJPW Princess Tag Team titles, hoping to rebuild their momentum overseas.
