Jake Hager has called it a career after nearly two decades across major promotions. Appearing on the Inside The Ring podcast, Hager confirmed his retirement and opened up about the match he always wanted but never got — a proper singles feud with Hangman Adam Page in AEW.
Hager said he rarely pursued dream matches during his career, always defaulting to what was best for the company. But the exception was Page, whose athleticism left a lasting impression during their Stadium Stampede spot. “I will say that in AEW, I really wanted to wrestle Hangman Page in a storyline just because of the Stadium Stampede scene that we did,” Hager said. “You won’t believe me, but we shot that in one take. He is so unbelievably athletic. It was impressive.”
Hager Believed a Feud With Page Would Have Been “Great” But It Never Materialized
The chemistry of that Stadium Stampede moment had Hager convinced a full storyline would deliver. “I got to be so aggressive because of that. I always thought down the road that we were going to lead to that and it was going to be great — but never got to it.” After nearly 20 years across WWE, AEW, and other promotions, Hager steps away with that unfinished chapter as his most prominent career wish left unfulfilled.
