Colt Cabana has found a home in AEW that goes well beyond the ring — and he has no intention of leaving. Speaking on Talk’n Shop, Cabana broke down his multiple roles within the company, describing a workday that touches producing, merchandise, social media content, and fan experiences all in one.
“I’m a producer. I work with the merch team. I work with the VIP team and also I’m a wrestler, but I haven’t been getting the call to wrestle,” Cabana said, with Doc Gallows adding that Cabana has become irreplaceable. “I’m trying to make myself irreplaceable. I don’t ever want to leave this job.”
Cabana’s Producing Philosophy: Let the Wrestler Make the Call and Learn From It
Cabana walked through what a typical AEW show day looks like — arriving, waiting for his match assignment, handling merchandise autographs, filming content for Pro Wrestling Tees and Shop AEW, then sitting with his assigned wrestlers to go over the match. He also described a producing philosophy built on trust rather than control. “You’re the artist, you’re the wrestler, you’re the one that got yourself here. I’m only here to help your ideas, maybe help them grow. But ultimately, it’s your match and I want you to either do great or I want you to eat sh*t — so you learn.” He also hosts the pre-show VIP experience for premium ticket holders, bringing in wrestlers or personalities like Jeff Jarrett to meet fans.
Cabana has been under AEW contract since 2020, having chosen the company over offers from ROH and a potential full-time NJPW pairing with Toru Yano. He said he’s pleased with the decision, especially given how the pandemic reshaped the industry shortly after he signed.
