Chris Jericho isn’t done wrestling — but he’s worried about whether today’s generation will be able to say the same thing at his age. Speaking with GamesHub, the 55-year-old AEW veteran reflected on his 35-year career and issued a candid warning about the long-term cost of modern in-ring styles.
“Here I am at 55, 35 years in, with still some career left to go. I don’t know if it’s a year, two years, four years — I’m not sure. But I don’t know how many of the guys working now will have the option to go 35 years,” Jericho said. He pointed directly at the shift in emphasis toward high-risk physicality as a potential threat to longevity. “The longevity may be harder to sustain when there’s so much emphasis on the physical at the expense of charisma and character.”
Jericho Credits an Early Injury for Teaching Him Which Risks Were Worth Taking
Jericho traced his own evolution back to a painful lesson early in his career. “The first time I ever got hurt — I was in León, Mexico, did a dive over the top rope, and the guy who was supposed to catch me just stepped aside. I landed on old-school bolted-down arena chairs.” That moment changed everything. “After that I started getting smart about which moves were worth the risk. The guys who figure that out early are the ones who get the longevity.” Jericho has been away from wrestling since losing to Bandido at AEW Dynasty in April 2025.
