AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher has issued an apology for comments he made about All In: Texas being “one of the worst days of my life,” clarifying that his wording was poorly chosen while explaining the genuine emotional weight behind what he experienced that day. Speaking on Unlikely, Fletcher was candid about his regret over how the original statement came across.
“That comment that I made the other day — I was very upset with myself for the way I worded it. I would like to apologize for the way I spoke and the words that I used. I think the words I used were a bit insensitive,” Fletcher said. “My thought process when I was answering that was I never want to talk about somebody else’s story. That whole situation — a lot of it is Adam’s story to tell.”
Fletcher was initially scheduled to challenge Adam Cole for the TNT Championship at All In: Texas last July, but Cole suffered a career-threatening injury during a match involving Fletcher on the go-home episode of Collision. Cole appeared at the event in an emotional address to fans, alluding that he may never wrestle again.
Kyle Fletcher Explains the Emotional Weight Behind His All In Texas Comments About Adam Cole
Fletcher explained that the reason the day was so painful for him personally was watching someone he deeply admires go through one of the hardest moments of their career — while knowing he may have been responsible. “One of the reasons it was one of the worst days of my life is because I had to watch someone that I admire very much stand in the ring, cry, and say that he might never wrestle again. Then I had to go out into the ring and perform, knowing that it was possibly my fault, that everybody in the arena knew it was my fault. I’m sure you can imagine the headspace.”
Fletcher also addressed the suggestion from some in his circle that he should lean into the situation for heel heat. “I have people in my ear saying, ‘You should be saying in promos that you injured Adam Cole and using it for heat.’ I never felt good about that. So I’ve tried my best to stay away from talking about it.” He closed with genuine humility. “I don’t feel like I have the right to complain about any of it because what Adam is going through, my feelings pale in comparison. But I was asked about my feelings that day, and that’s what I tried to talk about.”
