Tony Khan has made his feelings about AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla abundantly clear — she is, in his view, the standout performer among all of the company’s recent signings. Appearing on Ringer Wrestling, Khan was asked about AEW’s biggest new arrivals over the past year and immediately elevated Thekla above the rest of the field.
“I would say absolutely Thekla would be — of this new crop — the MVP of the new arrivals as World Champion. And she’s been fantastic. Now when she arrived, she had a goal of winning the World Title, but the very first thing she did was go after Jamie Hayter. And Jamie Hayter has been a huge part of AEW, one of our most popular stars, a former World Champion. Jamie Hayter versus Thekla I think is a really compelling, exciting rivalry and I’m excited for their match this weekend at AEW Dynasty,” Khan said. Thekla signed with AEW in July of last year and captured the Women’s World Championship in a run that has established her as one of the company’s most important performers. AEW reportedly signed her to an extended deal last month, well before her contract was due to expire.

Khan also singled out the AEW World Trios Championship team of Mistico, Speedball Mike Bailey, and Kevin Knight — collectively known as JetSpeed alongside Mistico — as another highlight of the promotion’s recent signing activity. “Our World Trios Champions have been a fantastic signing too. All three of them represent very different places in their careers, different experiences, different backgrounds. But three great wrestlers that we’ve signed in the past year in Mistico, Speedball Bailey, and of course the Jet Kevin Knight.” The praise from Khan underscores how significantly AEW‘s women’s division and trios division have been elevated by strategic signings heading into one of the company’s most competitive spring pay-per-view seasons.
