The Motor City Machine Guns are officially leaving WWE, with Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley set to become free agents in July. Multiple promotions are expected to pursue the duo, and Fightful Select reports that TNA sources say the door remains open for a return, though the belief is that AEW may ultimately land them. No contact from AEW has been confirmed at this point.
Within WWE, those familiar with the situation said Sabin and Shelley were confident they would remain active and successful elsewhere. The pair will continue wrestling while also working on their band, GRPPLNG. Despite hoping for more consistent opportunities and seeing their usage decline in recent months, they were said to appreciate the time they did get with the company. The team was not scheduled to travel for last week’s SmackDown TV tapings.
AEW had previously pursued the duo in 2024 and made an offer that WWE matched, leading to their signing at the time.
