Two more matches have been added to WWE Backlash on May 9 in Tampa following the events of Friday’s SmackDown. Sami Zayn brought the Gingerbread Man outfit to the ring and grew increasingly irate over being disrespected, eventually destroying the costume. Trick Williams came to the ring for the save, treating the Gingerbread Man as if it were a physical being and claiming it had been injured.
Later, Williams confronted Zayn at WWE’s medical area and told him he had crossed a line, setting up a match between the two for next Saturday at Backlash. The announcers later confirmed that the Gingerbread Man had died, with a funeral scheduled to air on next week’s SmackDown.
In another segment, The Miz and Kit Wilson were once again outwitted by Danhausen after falling into a trap they had set up themselves, ending up covered in powder. As Danhausen handed out merchandise, the duo arrived to argue, with The Miz saying he wanted to mentor Danhausen. The whole thing turned out to be a setup, as The Miz dropped Danhausen with a Skull Crushing Finale.
Backstage, Nick Aldis told Danhausen he could face the duo at Backlash but would need a tag team partner.
The current Backlash card features Roman Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu, Trick Williams defending the United States Title against Sami Zayn, IYO SKY vs. Asuka, Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, and The Miz and Kit Wilson against Danhausen and a partner to be determined.
