Chad Gable unmasked at AAA Noche de Los Grandes on Friday night in Monterrey, revealing himself to the audience after losing a mask vs. mask match to Ludwig Kaiser. Gable addressed the crowd after the reveal, introduced his family, and promised he would return to AAA.
The reveal came after weeks of controversy. WWE advertised a future match between Gable and El Hijo del Vikingo as an AAA Mega Championship match on the May 26 episode of Raw, despite neither man holding the belt at the time — a move widely interpreted as a spoiler for the Noche de Los Grandes AAA Latin American Championship match between Vikingo and Alberto El Patron.
Jeff Jarrett addressed the situation on his My World podcast, saying WWE’s behavior was entirely predictable. “They don’t give two shits what is advertised in AAA. They’re going to get out the match they want to get out,” Jarrett said. He argued the decision was counterproductive to WWE’s own interests, given that AAA’s core fanbase is the exact audience WWE is trying to grow with the partnership.
JBL called Gable “the best wrestler in the world” on social media after the match. Gable also announced a documentary series about his injury recovery is in development. Dave Meltzer called it “one of the great match presentations of all-time.”
