Orange Cassidy said in an interview with TMZ Sports that he doesn’t disagree when people call him a comedy wrestler, and explained that he views it as one tool among many.
“When people refer to me as a comedy wrestler, I’m doing comedy wrestling,” he said. “I don’t really disagree because that is an element I would like to use. I was fortunate enough to be trained around and wrestled with a lot of different people with a lot of different styles. And I think to me that is where I find my most success — I will try to incorporate as much of every style of professional wrestling that I can into my matches.”
He also traced the origin of his signature hands-in-pockets spot to a match with Marko Stunt, where he tried it on a whim and noticed it landing with the crowd.
“I’ve spent a lot of time in professional wrestling — over a decade it took me to figure out what I needed to do to connect with people,” Cassidy said. “I had nothing to lose. So I was just trying anything.” He added: “That is like a thing I never thought would happen where people would be like, ‘Oh yeah, you got to put those hands in your pockets.’ But that to me is what a great professional wrestler is — something that stands out that people can identify with.”
Cassidy is currently one-third of the AEW World Trios Champions alongside Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly, having won the titles in April.
