United Empire had “semi-big” plans for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door as of April, per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, but those plans may be affected by an injury to Callum Newman.
“I was told this directly that when they came in on that one TV, it was to build to Forbidden Door,” Meltzer said. “The plan was at that time they would be involved with something semi-big at Forbidden Door.”
Newman suffered what appeared to be a shoulder dislocation during his IWGP Heavyweight Championship match against Yota Tsuji at NJPW Dominion. An MRI is pending to determine severity. Newman last appeared on AEW programming at the April 8 Dynamite, where he teamed with Will Ospreay, Francesco Akira, and HENARE to defeat the Death Riders in a Chaos in Canada Match.
Forbidden Door takes place June 28 at the SAP Center in San Jose.
