JBL came to Road Dogg’s defense during a Something To Wrestle Q&A, pushing back against criticism of his time as a writer on WWE SmackDown.
“These guys that are out there, they’re talking about Road Dogg didn’t do a good job — —-. It’s just —-. These guys are selling out arenas all over the world, making more money — we never dreamed that people would make money like this. Road Dogg was one of the guys behind it,” JBL said.
He also spoke to the difficulty of live weekly television. “This isn’t a TV episode show where you can do 13 episodes, film it, and if you don’t like it, go back and edit it. This is live. If it doesn’t work, you get the blame for that, too. I think Road Dogg did an excellent job.”
Road Dogg left his WWE creative role in March 2026. He previously told Busted Open Radio that he stayed longer than he wanted out of financial fear.
