Eric Young has been released by TNA Wrestling and is expected to return to WWE in a “player/coach” role in NXT, per Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio.
TNA announced Young’s release via press release on Wednesday, with the two sides coming to terms on his exit. Per Fightful Select, WWE sources anticipate his return, noting that Young has maintained a positive relationship with Triple H throughout the years. Alvarez provided the specific role: “Eric Young expected to be a ‘player/coach’ in NXT.”
Young, 46, debuted for TNA in 2004 as a member of Team Canada and became one of the promotion’s longest-tenured talents. He signed with WWE in 2016 before being released in April 2020 as part of the COVID-19 pandemic roster cuts. He returned to Impact/TNA in 2023 and remained until his exit this week. He is a former multi-time TNA World Champion and X-Division Champion.
