WWE has had “significant” internal discussions about a match between Gunther and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, per WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, with Dave Meltzer also reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that he believes the match will take place at SummerSlam.
The program stems from Gunther confronting Aldis in the Night of Champions post-show, calling him a “failed wrestler” and accusing him of jealousy over his repeated championship failures. Aldis pushed back after repeated shoves and security broke them apart. Both were sent home and Aldis was placed on administrative leave, with Adam Pearce overseeing both Raw and SmackDown in the interim.
Per the report, the expectation if the match happens is that Aldis wrestles it himself rather than selecting a proxy. Aldis hasn’t competed since October 2023 and has never wrestled in a WWE ring. He is a former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and TNA World Champion.
