On the latest episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jeff Jarrett shared the behind-the-scenes story of giving Gary Coleman a guitar shot on WCW Nitro, including the toilet-paper padding that nearly gave the spot away — and explained how he protects people when he hits them with the guitar. “In this business, the story behind the scenes is sometimes so much more entertaining than what you see on camera. Gary agreed to be a part of Nitro, he’s getting the guitar shot. He gets to the building around noon, and he’s like, I want to go to a toy store. My good buddy Jeremy Borash got elected to be his chaperone for the day, and they go off and spend all afternoon at the toy store. They get back, and little did I know that in his little ball cap he came up with the bright idea to get a lot of Charmin. He stuffs a bunch of Charmin in his ball cap, puts it on, comes in from behind, hits me, gets up on the second rope, and he’s shaking and bouncing — and that hat pops off in slow motion. He’s got to run over to it. I’m selling my nuts and rolling around going, what in the hell is he doing? So I had to give him time. He’s scrambling, putting the toilet paper back in there, puts the hat back on, turns around, and I crack him. The building exploded. They loved it, people at home did too, and I did too. I think I got a standing ovation from Borash that night.”
“When you’re going to give someone a guitar shot, you tell them: bat speed, it’s coming real fast, close your eyes, tuck your chin, that’s it. And they worry about splinters. Of all people, there were two consecutive TV tapings in Orlando where I got Kurt — he’s got a bald head, so there’s no hair for it to blend into — and I gashed him back to back one time. So it happens. It stings, but it’s not a chair shot, for sure.”
