AJ Styles has questioned WWE’s decision to part ways with The New Day and The Motor City Machine Guns. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods agreed to leave WWE in May after rejecting restructured contracts, while The Motor City Machine Guns were released as part of mass cuts following WrestleMania 42 in April. Styles discussed both on his AJ Styles Show podcast.
“I have so much respect for these two tag teams and know what they’re capable of. Man, I don’t know if it was the smartest decision letting those two tag teams go. Don’t know. I can tell you, I wouldn’t bet that it was the smartest decision.”
“And I am biased. Two guys that I’ve known forever in Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. And then Austin Creed, who I’ve literally known for over two decades. Like, we go way back. And Kofi’s such an awesome dude.”
The Motor City Machine Guns have since signed with AEW, and Woods and Kingston are expected to sign with the promotion as well. Styles has been working for WWE in a scouting capacity since retiring from in-ring competition.
