On the latest episode of My World, Jeff Jarrett used the Roman Reigns run to make his point about the eternal wrestling question of creative versus talent, and why being labeled a top guy was never enough on its own. You can check out his comments below:
On his song-or-singer framing:
“The reality is, what makes a number one hit? What makes a top guy? The song or the singer? I’ll say the song is creative, the singer is the talent. How do you get to have a number one hit and then have another one? It takes both. There’s a lot of validity in that quote you read. The flip side is you touched on it well.”
On creative being what finally elevated Reigns:
“Roman was always quote-unquote one of their guys, but they tweaked and they tweaked and they tweaked, and the reality is the creative came along with Sami and Heyman. That is what was all the gas that was needed. The big dog and this and that, it didn’t move the needle. But Heyman and the story, and then the legitimacy of the family and the lineage. It was much more than a new coat of paint. It was a creative direction that people could sink their teeth into. That literally was personal issues draw money.”
On his read of the Reigns vs. Rollins main event and WWE’s house style:
“Seth always delivers. Roman’s the top guy, so much history, but it’s not like Seth has never delivered. WWE has had their style going back to the ’90s, Scott Hall and Shawn teaching me the little nuances of a WWE style. AEW now has developed their style. Roman has done it for 15 years, so has Seth. They deliver and know exactly how to deliver that kind of main event.”
On Reigns’ comments not being a shot at Jon Moxley:
“Not at all. To me, he was touching on reality-based stuff that always resonates. He’s a former D1 athlete, he comes from a long front line of family that can work their ass off.”
