On the latest episode of My World, Jeff Jarrett weighed in on the online reaction to CM Punk’s moonsault against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam and the wrestling fan obsession with calling spots botches. You can check out his comments below:
On fans who want to believe they know a botch when they see it:
“You’ve got to love online. But the term botch, I saw the moonsault, and that’s where, God bless wrestling fans. There’s a section of fans that want to believe that they know what they’re talking about, and that they would never ever believe, oh, you know, Punk’s moonsault, that’s exactly how he wanted to do it. Like, if Punk hit this textbook gymnastic moonsault, hell no.”
On what an actual botch is:
“If you slip on the rope, if you truly botch. Some people want to believe so bad that you have to have everything perfect and seamless, in a dance contest and a true ballet performance, and if everything isn’t flawless, that means it’s a sloppy match. That is so far from reality. But hey man, wrestling fans are going to bitch about what they want to bitch about.”
On things not always going to plan in a real fight, and in a worked one:
“I could dive into stories like that. King Cobb Fergie, first cousin of Lawler, we used to do a spot where he said, hey man, you go for the lockup, I’m going to go for the top wrist lock, it’s going to feel disjointed, that’s how I want it. It looked kind of funky, and then he pulls my hair, and we start the match a different way. That’s what I’m saying.”
