Jeff Jarrett wrestled in Arena Mexico for the first time in his career last week around AEW Grand Slam Mexico, after flying to Mexico City for business meetings with his gear in his bag.
Speaking on My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett said the match came together on the day.
“I actually got a cell phone call in the arena. Hey, dude, I gotta ask you: do you have your wrestling gear? And I chuckled and I said, ‘Does a carpenter leave the house without his tool belt?'”
Jarrett said he had never been inside the building before that trip despite roughly 20 years of working in Mexico, all of it for CMLL’s opposition, including AAA. He also worked the AEW VIP Q&A at the show, where a fan question prompted him to call wrestling in the arena a bucket list item because of the building and the family that runs it.
Asked whether the match was also his first for CMLL and his first for Ring of Honor, Jarrett confirmed it and added, “And first time a babyface in Mexico.”
Jarrett said footage of the appearance is expected on next week’s episode, and teased there is more to reveal about where his run goes next.
