Jay Ferruggia, the trainer working with CM Punk, rejected accusations that Punk’s physique change is chemically assisted, attributing it to diet, training, and a level of daily discipline he says most people could never match.
In a video posted to his Instagram, Ferruggia said the accusations come from “the weak-minded lazy internet” and described how Punk operates.
“From day one, when he reached out to me, he has done every single thing that I’ve asked him to do. He’s on vacation in Hawaii, checking in with me every single day. Sending me pictures, sending me his meals, his macros, his weight… Never missing a workout, doing more than I ask him. I have to hold him back.”
“He’s gotten significantly leaner, so when you get leaner, you look bigger, and he’s training in a different way. Honestly, he’s making almost newbie gains. It’s surprising me, but I know what’s going on. I know all the things he’s doing. I’m with him, I spend time with him, I talk to him every single day. So just because someone’s getting somewhere and accomplishing something that you can’t doesn’t mean they are taking shortcuts and cheating. You are just lazy.”
The accusations picked up last June when gym clips of Punk went viral and former AEW wrestler Ryan Nemeth posted mocking Punk’s straight edge principles while alleging he was using performance-enhancing drugs.
Punk, the reigning WWE Undisputed Champion, beat Cody Rhodes to retain the title in the Night One co-main event of SummerSlam earlier this month.
