Jeff Jarrett pushed back on the idea that Chelsea Green losing in her first match after winning a championship at SummerSlam was automatically bad booking.
Green took the pin in a tag match on the August 7 SmackDown, days after winning the Interim WWE Women’s Championship in a ladder match. She later said she suffered a broken orbital bone on the show. The result drew criticism online, including the argument that champions should be protected and treated consistently.
On My World with Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett questioned the consistency argument on its face.
“Creative is subjective… So that means, tell me you treat a talent the same before and after they become champion. I don’t know if that passes the sniff test.”
“They obviously said, okay, we believe enough in this character, in her reaction, maybe in her ratings, maybe in her social media data, whatever it is, they made her champion… I’m not so sure that you treat the character the same if you’re building that equity.”
Jarrett said the criticism is being made without the information that matters.
“Taking it on face value is something that is good for the business, because we’re watching it real time. What we don’t know is where they’re going week two, three, four, five, and six.”
He added that he hated to hear about the injury.
