Dwayne Johnson said he has lost around 50 pounds since filming The Smashing Machine and is now down to 235.
Johnson added roughly 30 pounds to play Mark Kerr in the film, carrying 282 pounds through production. He posted about the change on Instagram on Sunday after questions about his appearance.
“I took almost a year to lose approximately 50lbs, from stepping on set to film The Smashing Machine weighing 282lbs, to my current weight today, 235lbs. Last time I was this weight was my freshman football season at University of Miami. I was a little light in the a–, for a defensive tackle, but still a monster,” Johnson wrote.
He said he took the weight off gradually.
“I wanted to take my time, drop the weight in a smart, wise and healthy way, nothing extreme,” Johnson wrote, adding that cutting out refined sugars made the biggest difference.
Johnson said he feels better at this weight across strength, endurance and recovery. He is currently filming Benny Safdie’s Lizard Music, and dealt with elbow and calf injuries during The Smashing Machine shoot.
