Kairi Sane’s release from WWE on April 24 generated significant frustration both within the company and among fans. According to Fightful Select, there was widespread shock backstage given that Sane was actively involved in the ongoing Asuka and IYO SKY storyline, and her departure leaves that feud without resolution.
Sane was in her second WWE run, having returned in 2023. During this stint, she added two WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship reigns to her résumé alongside Asuka as the Kabuki Warriors.
The fan response was immediate, with #WeWantKairi trending across social media. WWE backstage interviewer Jackie Redmond also posted in support, though her tweet was quickly removed.
Sane addressed the news herself, telling fans she was grateful for their support and would set sail in her own time. She is one of 25 wrestlers cut following WrestleMania 42, a group that also includes Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, the Wyatt Sicks, Alba Fyre, Zoey Stark, Apollo Crews, the Motor City Machine Guns, Santos Escobar, and 11 NXT performers.
