Gunther will challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at Clash in Italy on May 31 in Turin. The match was made official on this week’s WWE SmackDown after Gunther defeated Royce Keys in an impromptu number one contender’s match.
Rhodes arrived with the contract and demanded Gunther sign. Gunther played games, asking Rhodes to say please. Keys interrupted and offered to sign it himself if Gunther wouldn’t, leading to the main event between the two. Solo Sikoa interfered on Keys’s behalf despite Keys telling him earlier in the show he didn’t want the help, and the finish went in Gunther’s favor.
Clash in Italy takes place at the Inalpi Arena in Turin. It is WWE’s first-ever premium live event in Italy.
