Charlie, formerly Dakota Kai in WWE, addressed rumors on the Ring The Belle podcast that she had been planned to win the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament before Lyra Valkyria ended up winning it.
“Things change all the time, you know what I mean? Like last minute and I get that too but, I don’t know, I’m so happy for her,” she said of Valkyria. “We had such good chemistry and we never wrestled each other before… She’s insane. Everything she did was awesome.”
She also pushed back on the perception that she is injury-prone, having dealt with two torn ACLs, a torn meniscus, and a concussion during her WWE career. “I understand it though because I did have a bout of injuries and things like that so it was just bad luck on my end… All I can do is go out there and continue to do matches and hopefully change the perception of that.”
On her ring name: she is currently working as Charlie but acknowledged the feedback that the single name doesn’t land. “Charlie by itself — I agree, I agree but I can’t just be like, okay, I’m Charlie Brooks, you know what I mean? It has to be something… It’s under construction. We’ll get back to it.”
