Kaitlyn revealed on the Rewind Recap Relive podcast that she thought she was going to be fired after accidentally winning a number one contender’s battle royal on the August 20, 2012 episode of WWE Raw. Eve Torres was scheduled to win, but a failed elimination spot left Kaitlyn standing as the last woman.
“I was supposed to clothesline her over the top rope. She was going to slip out, hang on, pull me out, eliminate me. I clotheslined her, and the physics were off, and she didn’t go all the way over. So we set back up. I hit her so hard that she could not hold on. She fell and got eliminated. So I’m standing in the ring as number one contender. [It] wasn’t supposed to happen,” Kaitlyn said. She added that referee Brad Maddox was working his first live TV match that night and was just as caught off guard as she was.
Walking back through the curtain expecting consequences, she got the opposite. “I legit thought that when I walked back through the curtain that I was going to be fired… I walked back and Vince is laughing hysterically. I was like, ‘Is it an evil laugh, or…?'”
In the same interview, Kaitlyn said she remains open to returning to WWE. “I’m totally open to it, I totally am. I’ve been open to it in the past for a while.”
Kaitlyn held the WWE Divas Championship from September 2012 to June 2013. Her last WWE appearance was at the 2018 Mae Young Classic.
