Cody Rhodes revealed on the Ariel Helwani Show that he had a backstage outburst during the WrestleMania 42 build — triggered by an F-bomb being dropped on WWE programming — but said he quickly recognized he had outgrown that behavior.
“I had a bit of an outburst backstage, which shockingly didn’t get reported. When I say outburst, it’s just like me muttering some curse words and yelling and knocking over some water bottles à la Sami Zayn. Nothing too intense,” Rhodes said. “But I remember getting to my bus and thinking, ‘Yeah, you outgrew that.’ I don’t need to be having temper tantrums, I need to be helping provide solutions.”
He explained why the F-bomb bothered him: “I’m genuinely a goody-two-shoes. There’s really no room for those on our shows because we get blacked out. Not only do you think you’re saying something cool but they black the feed out in the States so you’re missing the show. And we’ve got kiddos in the crowd.”
Rhodes did not name who dropped the F-bomb. Pat McAfee cursed repeatedly on WWE programming during the WM42 build, which included a program with Rhodes and Randy Orton. The original plan for WM42 had Orton winning the title, leading to a Backlash match of Cody Rhodes and Jelly Roll vs. Randy Orton and Pat McAfee. McAfee eventually opted out of that direction.
