AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door takes place Sunday at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The Buy-In pre-show features two matches before the main card.
This is the fifth Forbidden Door event and the first one held in San Jose. The card brings together talent from AEW, NJPW, STARDOM, and CMLL.
The Buy-In opens with the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship on the line as Divine Dominion (Megan Bayne & Lena Kross) defend against Thunder Rosa and CMLL’s Olympia. Rosa challenged the champions on the June 20 Collision. Also on the pre-show, Maika of STARDOM faces Skye Blue in a TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest qualifier — the winner advances to the six-woman match on the July 1 Dynamite in San Diego.
The main card opens with the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament final between Mercedes Moné and Maya World. Moné returned as the wild card replacement for the injured Willow Nightingale and has not lost a match since. Maya World upset Athena in the semifinal on Collision. Post-match, both Moné and Athena attacked Maya — setting up a final with an added layer of tension as the AEW Women’s World Championship is not on the line but the Owen Hart trophy and bragging rights are.
The Owen Hart Foundation Men’s final puts Will Ospreay against Swerve Strickland. Ospreay defeated Samoa Joe in the quarterfinal, using the Styles Clash as a deliberate tribute to the match that made him want to become a wrestler. Swerve defeated Bandido. The two met face-to-face on the June 17 Dynamite in an intense confrontation. Ospreay carries massive betting odds (-2500) as the favorite.
The 12-man steel cage match determines whether Mark Briscoe gets a future AEW World Championship match. Team MJF — MJF, Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, Kevin Knight, Andrade El Idolo, and Jake Doyle — must keep Team Briscoe from winning. Team Briscoe consists of Briscoe, Konosuke Takeshita, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, and Darby Allin. The match was built from MJF repeatedly denying Briscoe a title opportunity, leading to a challenge that MJF initially accepted before recruiting Don Callis Family members. Knight joined on condition of receiving a title shot of his own if Team MJF wins.
Kenny Omega faces Zack Sabre Jr. in their first singles match in nearly eight years, since Omega defeated ZSJ in the 2018 G1 Climax. ZSJ has been on an undefeated run since March 2026. He has challenged for AEW championship gold following his match, saying NJPW receives nothing from the Forbidden Door partnership and that he intends to take something back.
Thekla defends the AEW Women’s World Championship against STARDOM’s Starlight Kid. Thekla provoked STARDOM by spitting at their logo on the June 3 Dynamite and issuing an open challenge. Kid answered. Thekla is 138 days into her reign.
Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Dogs (Clark Connors and David Finlay) in their first defense since winning the titles at Double or Nothing. The Dogs have been on a strong run, defeating The Young Bucks on the June 13 Collision.
Shota Umino defends the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship against PAC. PAC earned the match with a win over Jay Alexander on the June 20 Collision, with the announcement made immediately after.
Jon Moxley defends the AEW Continental Championship against Bandido, who advanced through the Owen Hart men’s bracket before Moxley was inserted into the Continental title match.
The three-way tag match features El Sky Team (Mistico and Mascara Dorada) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) vs. Unbound Company (Shingo Takagi and Titan).
