Willow Nightingale had been planned to win the AEW Women’s World Title for months, with the goal always being Nightingale against Mercedes Mone at All In, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful. Nightingale beat Thekla with a backslide in the semi-main event of Redemption on Sunday for her first world title.
Nightingale was originally scheduled to compete in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament, while Mone was not, though it is unknown whether the first plan was for Nightingale to win the belt at All In itself. Nightingale withdrew from the tournament with what was revealed to be an AC sprain, and Mone was named as her replacement. Mone went on to win the tournament, beating Maya World in the final at Forbidden Door.
Nightingale vacated the TBS Title due to the injury, then returned at Dynamite Beach Break on July 8, winning a Casino Gauntlet to earn the shot at Thekla. Her win at Redemption made Nightingale vs. Mone for the AEW Women’s World Title official for All In, which takes place at Wembley Stadium over the August bank holiday weekend.
